Chapel Street, Stratford-upon-Avon by William Wells Quatremain
Pen and wash drawing by William Wells Quatremain, depicting Chapel Street, initialled 'WWQ' and dated 1918. William Wells Quatremain (1857-1930) was a professional artist who lived and worked in Stratford-upon-Avon for all of his adult life, having moved to the town aged ten. He was a prolific painter of Shakespeare's home town and the Warwickshire landscape, and from 1907 regularly sold his work to postcard manufacturer, J. Salmon Ltd. He was also an art teacher and painted theatre scenery for Sir Frank Benson's Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. Collections reference number: SBT 1992-100
