Watercolour by William Wells Quatremain, signed and dated 1908. The painting shows the rear elevation of the house from the garden with a figure in the foreground. William Wells Quatremain (1857-1930) was a professional artist who lived and worked in Stratford-upon-Avon for all of his adult life, having moved to the town aged ten. He was a prolific painter of Shakespeare's home town and the Warwickshire landscape, and from 1907 regularly sold his work to postcard manufacturer, J. Salmon Ltd. He was also an art teacher and painted theatre scenery for Sir Frank Benson's Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. Collections reference number: SBT 2018-8/5
